The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering has strong relations with industry corporations, and a reputable record in teaching and research. The Faculty endeavours to remain an Australian leader in practice-based learning and industry engagement, and to be recognised internationally for its areas of research strength and expertise.
The faculty courses have been developed in consultation with its industry connections and are continuously updated to keep pace with industry demands. The academic staff are also leaders in their areas of expertise and many are active in professional practice, and hence students are exposed to the most relevant and up-to-date knowledge and skills.
The faculty works alongside domestic and international industries to address issues they are facing and develop ways to overcome them. Additionally, the faculty foresees opportunities to conduct research that is adopted in the real world.
Omar is undertaking his PhD in the field of Structural and Earthquake Engineering at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS). He has obtained his BEng (Civil, 1st class honours) and gained knowledge in the field of structural design, particularly in the design of bridges against earthquake loading. Omar is undertaking numerical research studies through the use of finite element software’s such as ABAQUS, ANSYS and SAP2000.
Prior to starting his PhD, Omar has gained over 1.5 years of experience in the construction industry of buildings. Additionally, Omar has gained 1.5 years of structural consulting experience, having designed multiple structures, including houses, warehouses and apartment complexes.
